Shakopee Location

Incorporated in 1857, Shakopee is a city with a bustling downtown and a history as the site of a Dakota village called Tintonwan "Village on the Prairie". Shakopee, 30 miles southwest of Minneapolis and the seat of Scott County, retains its identity as a city rather than a suburb, with enough attractions, people, and character to prevent it from fading into surrounding suburbs. Access to the metro area is via Highways 169-101, and Highway 169 across the new Bloomington Ferry Bridge.

Shakopee Recreation

The Minnesota River, which separates the city from adjacent more heavily populated Hennepin County, provides fishing and boating opportunities. With plenty of open space, the area has several striking geographic features, including an expanse of wetlands along the Minnesota River Valley, a sprawling prairie and a series of scenic rises. There are about 250 acres in the city park system in addition to the 1,120 acre James Wilke Regional Park Reserve. There are miles of paved nature trails for hiking and biking.
